Cleaning and sealing infected or inflamed root canals to save the tooth. We use operating microscopes and rotary instruments on every case for predictable outcomes.

Not reserved for difficult cases — we use surgical-grade microscopy for all root canal treatment and CBCT scans where required. Better visualisation means fewer missed canals and more predictable healing.

Dr Martin Gale

Dr Gale qualified in dentistry at the University of Newcastle (UK) before completing a PhD at the University of Hong Kong and a clinical Masters in Endodontics at the University of Melbourne. He established Ivanhoe Specialist Endodontics in 2005 and has been providing specialist endodontic care from Ivanhoe ever since.

He has strong academic interests and lectures widely in diagnostic method, 3D CBCT radiography, dental materials science, and artificial intelligence for dentistry. He contributes as a member of several Australian Dental Association committees, the Australian Society of Endodontology Victorian Branch, and the International Standards Organisation (ISO). These extramural activities all benefit Dr Gale's ability to deliver a much higher standard of clinical care with the best materials and techniques.

Your dentist has referred you to us because they trust us with their patients. Here's what to know before you arrive.

You'll Be Comfortable

Modern endodontic treatment under local anaesthesia is painless in the chair. Many patients are surprised at how straightforward it is compared to their expectations.

Referral Preferred

We work primarily as a specialist referral practice, and a referral from your dentist means we're fully briefed before you arrive. However, we welcome exceptions — particularly if you're in pain or having trouble getting a referral quickly. Please call us and we'll do our best to help.

Microscope and CBCT Based Treatment

Every patient is treated under a surgical operating microscope. This allows us to see details that are simply invisible to the naked eye, improving accuracy and outcomes. 3D radiographs (CBCT) are also essential in many cases to get the best result for your care.

Appointment Length

Most root canal treatments take 60–90 minutes. Complex cases or surgical procedures may take longer — we'll let you know what to expect at your consultation.

Payment & Health Funds

We provide a detailed treatment fee estimate at consultation so there are no financial surprises. Patients can claim back from their health fund after their visit. We accept all major health funds.

Returning to Your Dentist

After treatment, your dentist receives our full report and you return to them for the permanent restoration. We look after the endodontics to make you healthy again — they look after everything else.
